Store Spotlight: Salon Cruz
Salon Cruz has brought a taste of glamour to the town of Burlington, Vermont via celebrity hair stylist Justin Cruz. His experience with editorial, celebrity and runway work has made him an established name in the industry. This month, we wanted to get to know Justin and spotlight his unique salon.
SC: We pride our salon on being a “green” salon, we primarily partner with companies that mirror our vision for wanting to minimize toxic ingredients in products and provide more than just the very best in hair and beauty. Our mission to reveal natural beauty in every client while staying true to our commitment to our environment and our community.
What do you take into consideration when selecting beauty + haircare brands for your salon?
SC: When selecting beauty and haircare brands we are conscience in choosing products that are environmentally friendly, toxic free, sustainable and most importantly that they provide health and healing along with beauty.
What are your all-time favorite personal care products and why?
SC: As someone who suffers from eczema (on my hands and I’m a hairdresser!), I have to say Patyka, both skincare and body line, is my absolute favorite right now. The quality is amazing and consistent! I am really feeling their Body Cremes and Lotions–they absorb so quickly and leave my dry, itchy hands soft, smooth and nourished. I can honestly say I have yet to find a better hand creme.
Do you have a specific haircare regimen that you advise clients to follow?
SC: We don’t believe in a “one size fits all” approach when suggesting hair care regimens to our clients. We always take the time to ask plenty of questions and try to envision along with the client what exactly they are hoping to achieve, especially when we are at the sink. There we are able to really utilize the array of products we carry to target the specific needs of every client. For example, when a client walks through our door trying to bring life back to her lackluster hair while also wanting to remedy dry, damaged ends our stylists may suggest Phyto’s Huile D’Ales, which blends castor plant oil and essential oils to moisturize, smooth and restore radiance. We also enjoy sharing tips and techniques that we use at the salon that they can also do at home such as blow drying techniques, etc.
Bridal, editorial or real woman…Which is your favorite to do?
SC: Bridal, editorial, or real woman……Ahhh what a difficult question to answer….but I’d have to say working with real women still to me is such a rewarding experience. It’s a challenge sometimes of course because no one has the perfect hair or perfect skin but to show them sometimes the most subtle changes can bring about the biggest transformations is always nice. Listening is such a huge part of our jobs and when you have an opportunity to help someone bring out their own natural beauty just by enhancing their eyes with a different color mascara or suggesting something as simple as bangs (if they are looking for a change in hair style) is really the most fulfilling part of my job.
Any current obsessions?
SC: My current obsessions are juicing and Priori’s Coffeeberry line. Juicing works more magic on skin, hair and body than any product on the market. All those great plant enzymes are the only real form of nutrition we get and they really keep me going all throughout my day. Good hair and skin are truly a reflection of what we put into our bodies. If we’re healthy inside, it shows on the outside! Priori’s Coffeeberry products use the most potent source of antioxidants, the Coffeeberry extract. The entire line is at least 98% natural and when combining the two (juicing and a natural product), the results are exhilarating.
